Kimberley Knight has been named the 2027 Imago Fellow at the State Library of New South Wales. The $50,000 fellowship supports creative writing that draws on the library's collections.

Knight's project, Body of Communication, is a suite of essays about how language works, told through true crime. The essays examine criminal cases to show how communication can save lives.

The library announced its 2027 fellowships on 15 October, alongside the launch of the new David Scott Mitchell Institute, which funds $274,000 in research fellowships across 14 categories.

The Imago Fellowship began in 2025, when Dr Sheila Ngoc Pham held it for a project on Anne Spencer Parry and Australian fantasy and science fiction of the late 20th century. The 2026 fellow, Karolina Ristevski, is writing a meta-theatrical crime play for the Australian stage.
