Dollhouse Pictures has taken the screen option on The Work, the novel by Bri Lee published by Allen & Unwin, and is developing it as a television series. The project already has development support from Screen Australia.

Screenwriter Hannah Lehmann created the series. She made and directed all three seasons of the Snap Originals series Two Sides. Jessica Carrera of Dollhouse Pictures and Lee are executive producers. Dollhouse is an independent production collective whose co-founders are Rose Byrne, Krew Boylan, Shannon Murphy and Carrera.

The novel moves between New York, Brisbane and Sydney. It follows Lally, a New York gallerist, and Patrick, a junior antiques appraiser in Sydney, who begin a long-distance relationship while each tries to get ahead in the art world. Lee's earlier books include Eggshell Skull, Beauty, Who Gets to Be Smart and the 2025 novel Seed.

Lee is represented by United Talent Agency and by Grace Heifetz at a4 Literary. UTA negotiated the screen deal.
