The Auckland Writers Festival Waituhi o Tāmaki will run from 11 to 16 May 2027. Its schools programme, Hōtaka Kura, will take place on the Aotea Centre stages from 11 to 13 May.

The festival has announced the first four headliners for the 2027 schools programme. They are Chloe Gong, a New York Times bestselling author; Joseph Coelho, a former UK Children's Laureate; A.F. Steadman; and Aki Fukuoka. The festival says the programme is designed to inspire tamariki and rangatahi.

More schools programme names are expected to follow, as the festival describes these four as the first authors confirmed. It has not yet released the full 2027 programme, ticketing details or venues for the main festival beyond the Aotea Centre.

The festival's website also lists other programme strands, including Pukapuka Adventures, PLOT TWIST and STREETSIDE: BRITOMART, but does not say which will run in 2027. Readers can sign up through the website for updates on the programme as it is announced.
