Wakefield Press is recruiting a sales representative for South Australia, according to an advertisement posted on its website on 27 October. The job begins at three days a week, with scope to increase the hours over time.

The representative will work from the Wakefield Press office at Mile End and travel to trade customers in metropolitan and rural areas, as well as keeping in touch by phone and email. Petrol and parking costs are reimbursed. The role covers new and backlist titles from Wakefield Press, along with books from Peribo and John Reed.

Duties include presenting titles to existing and new accounts, meeting buyers, building customer relationships, finding new business through cold calls and networking, sorting out customer problems, working with the rest of the Wakefield team and attending sales conferences, some of them over Zoom.

Applicants must live in South Australia, hold a current full Australian driver's licence and have reliable use of a private car; those who do not meet all three will not be considered. The publisher would also like candidates with sales or bookselling experience, a feel for publishing trends, familiarity with MYOB or a similar system and confidence in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

To apply, email a résumé and cover letter to Maddy Sexton at maddy@wakefieldpress.com.au, with "Job application" and your name in the subject line. Applications close at 5pm on Friday 13 November, and only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
